Summary of Responsibilities:

The Manager, Controllership manages the day-to-day objectives, workflow, and resource allocation of senior and staff accountants to ensure work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities.

Essential Functions:

  • Manages the day-to-day objectives, workflow, resource allocation and productivity of the Accounting or Reporting team.
  • Collaborates with the other finance department managers and supporting departments to support overall department goals and objectives.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of new accounting and reporting procedures to enhance the workflow of the department.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like; internally and with auditors and regulators.
  • Provides training to new and existing staff as needed.
  • Obtains and maintains a thorough understanding of the accounting systems, financial reporting and general ledger structure.
  • Works with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitors and advises on the progress to enhance the enhance the professional development of staff.
  • Supports budget and forecasting activities.
  • Ensures the accurate accounting, processing, reporting/disclosures of transactions.
  • Delegates objectives and workflow; ensures adherence to established standards.
  • Develops and implements methods of streamlining accounting and reporting to increase efficiency.
  • Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
  • Ensures accounting and reporting policies, practices, and procedures are understood and followed by direct reports, customers and stakeholders.
  • Directs and reviews work of teams within the Accounting department.
  • Provides regular communication on day-to-day priorities within processing, accounting entries, reconciliations, reporting, analysis, and documentation.
  • Improves processes within the Accounting Department.
  • Directs and reviews the work of the team and provides training to enhance knowledge and skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Manages subordinate managers and professional staff. Is responsible for the strategic guidance, development and evaluation of employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Santander’s policies and applicable laws.

Requirements:

  • Education –
    • Bachelor’s Degree: Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent field.
    • or equivalent work experience
  • Experience –
    • 5-9 years Relatable experience in accounting, financial reporting or auditing field
    • Experience within the banking or financial services industry
  • Skills & Abilities –
    • Advanced knowledge of accounting practices and procedures, including US GAAP/IFRS and regulatory reporting standards.
    • Must be well organized and a self-starter.
    • Must have a strong work ethic.
    • Ability to direct, train and guide peers, subordinates and management.
    • Ability to interact with multiple levels of the organizational structure, including senior level management.
    • Ability to handle conflict resolution with other groups to ensure appropriate accounting guidance is followed.
    • Ability to adjust to new developments/changing circumstances.
    • Ability to maintain and report on confidential information in an appropriate manner.
    • Ability to work independently and with a team in fast-paced and high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
    • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
    • Possess strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Proficient in MS Excel and Word.
    • Strong attention to details and can analyze information quickly.
    • Strong analytical, organizational and project management skills.
    • Ability to demonstrate continuous improvement through training.
  • Licenses & Certifications –
    • Preferred: CPA – Certified Public Accountant
