Job Function: Business Partnering

Develops and executes strategy for business units or functional groups supported and ensures alignment with overall business and people strategy. Plans, administers and reviews activities across HR. Strategically partners with business leaders to provide strategic counsel and to ensure that HR policies, procedures and programs are aligned with business needs. Establishes or maintains partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflect the company’s business objectives.

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Consultant, Employee Relations provides dedicated, high quality, professional and experienced Employee Relations (ER) service to all managers and employees. S/he is responsible for the delivery and resolution of escalated ER processes and practices providing expert advice, consultation and guidance to managers on employment related issues that arise.

The incumbent is also responsible for ensuring legislative and organization processes and policies are up to date, compliant, and appropriate for achievement of business needs.

Essential Functions:

  • Acts as a subject matter expert in employee relations and provides leadership/direction to other employee relations representatives/analysts.
  • Serves as a role model, ambassador, and teacher of company values, vision, and standards of conduct; Counsels and supports leaders and employees and recommends effective actions that will lead to the desired culture.
  • Interprets policies and procedures, incorporating knowledge of state and federal employment laws. (i.e. ADA, FMLA, EEO) and practices, and provides recommendations to resolve complex employee relations issues.
  • Conducts investigations and provides guidance on such matters to mitigate risk and foster effective conflict resolution.
  • Drives metrics package to provide overview of activities, trending and themes.
  • Provides data to inform enterprise decisions about policies and related programs.

  • Provides talking points, templates, coaching and guidance, and advice to managers in the completion of ER processes, working to ensure robust and equitable outcomes.
  • Develops and conducts training to leaders, managers, employees, Talent Partners and other key stakeholders.
  • Conducts ER reviews and audits in line with applicable practices and in support of Compliance team directives.
  • Minimizes human capital consultation costs such as unemployment claims, EEOC charges, FLSA penalties by providing employee relations expertise and or having a strong presence at all necessary hearings/meetings.
  • Partners with Legal and Compliance as needed on cases and tracking systems to proactively manage risk to the organization.

  • Education –
    • Bachelor’s Degree: in HR, Business, Industrial/Labor Relations, Psychology, or equivalent field.
    • or equivalent work experience
  • Experience –
    • 5-9 years Partnering with management on employee relations issues.
    • 5-9 years Demonstrated experience of employee benefits as they relate to Employee Relations, leaves of absence, including short/long term disability, COBRA, state disability pay, ADA, FMLA, etc.
  • Skills & Abilities –
    • Ability to handle sensitive information with the highest degree of integrity and confidentiality
    • Strong interpersonal and human relations skills including strong judgment in assessing and dealing with issue resolution and escalation
    • Progressive ability to work collaboratively on a team and build strong relationship and interpersonal skills
    • Able to prioritize multiple responsibilities and manage ER issues for multi-site/state regions
    • Demonstrated knowledge of employment/labor laws and regulations
    • Demonstrated leadership skills in terms of team member motivation, visibility, and mentoring skills
    • Effective decision-making ability and influencing skills dealing with ambiguity and conflict resolution
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills and an ability to effectively interact with a variety of individuals internally and externally at all levels

Working Conditions:

  • Frequently: Minimal physical effort such as sitting, standing, and walking.
