Job Family: Data Management

Maintains and monitors data and databases to meet the company’s current and projected future needs. Reviews and ensures the quality, accuracy and security of data in accordance with established procedures and standards. Monitors database activity and the relationships between the database users and applications to ensure appropriate data usage and resolve data conflicts. Collaborates with technology/infrastructure staff to identify data relationships and functional requirements.

Job Function: Data Governance

Designs and monitors control systems which ensure the integrity and security of data and for advising on the optimal use of the organization’s computing resources. Assesses the completeness, accuracy, validity and efficiency of information processing, business and application systems, reviews the operations, systems software, systems development and security of the organization’s computing environment, and recommends appropriate software and hardware acquisitions.

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Director, Data Governance drives the operational and strategic objectives of the Data Governance team by implementing a data-centric approach to projects, issues, and resolutions, ensuring that data governance best practices are incorporated into each effort at every level.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensures a data-centric approach to projects, issues and resolutions, ensuring that governance best practices are incorporated into each effort at every level especially Risk Data Aggregation, Risk Data Reporting, FRY14 and Capital Plan.
  • Executes against an enterprise data governance framework, with a focus on improvement of data quality and the protection of the organization’s data assets through modifications to standards, principles, practices, governance metrics, related tools and data architecture.
  • Defines performance metrics that measure compliance with data related policies and standards.
  • Serves as a liaison between business, functional areas, and technology, to ensure that data related business requirements for protecting sensitive data are clearly defined, communicated, and understood.
  • Ensures the establishment of a comprehensive and consistent process for managing the entire lifecycle of data policies and their exceptions with, with clearly defined roles and responsibilities around the development and management of policies.
  • Delivers a centralized infrastructure for creating necessary policies, standards, and control procedures, mapping exceptions, and ensuring appropriate communications with stakeholders.
  • Recommends changes to Data Governance policies, procedures, limits, concentrations, and regulations based on trends, compliance, and industry best practices.
  • Sets goals and articulates objectives for team members in alignment with departmental objectives.
  • Manages independent Data Governance professionals.
  • Enforces and ensures policies, practices and procedures are understood and followed by direct reports, customers, and stakeholders.
  • Drives the success of operational and strategic data governance with oversight of departmental activities and projects.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Manages subordinate managers and professional staff. Is responsible for the strategic guidance, development and evaluation of employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Santander’s policies and applicable laws.

Requirements:

  • Education –
    • Bachelor’s Degree: Finance, Economics, Computer Science, Mathematics/Statistics, Actuarial Science, or other equivalent field.
    • or equivalent work experience
    • Master’s Degree: Finance, Economics, Computer Science, Mathematics/Statistics, Actuarial Science, or other equivalent field.
  • Experience –
    • 9-12 years Audit, regulatory, compliance, operational, or financial experience with Data Governance
    • 9-12 years ‘experience with relational database.
    • Minimum eight (8) years’ experience with in related data management and analysis role using Informatica.
    • Minimum three (3) to five (5) years’ management experience.
    • IDQ experience preferred.
    • Strong knowledge of analytical tools like SAS, Cognos, SSAS etc.
    • Prior experience liaising between Data Management, IT and other internal customers.
    • Proven track record demonstrating the ability to develop and manage an efficient department.

    • Demonstrated experience of direct accountability for leading a comprehensive data governance program within a large organization.
    • Advanced knowledge and understanding of data governance best practices within the Financial Services industry.
    • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequently: Minimal physical effort such as sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Occasional moving and lifting of equipment and furniture is required to support onsite and offsite meeting setup and teardown.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to fifty pounds, able to bend, kneel, climb ladders.
