Job Function: Learning & Development

Develops, implements, and/or supports training plans and programs that ensure that leadership, team and individual contributor skills and capabilities are at a standard that meets current and future requirements of the company and industry. Analyzes employee development needs to determine gaps and requirements for new program development. Conducts and supports ongoing evaluations of training programs to ensure effectiveness of programs, recommends modifications and implements enhancements as necessary.

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Director, Learning Management is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering experiential leadership development programs for a global organization. S/he maintains responsibility for continuously improving and measuring the impact of a defined leadership development portfolio of courses and programs. The incumbent collaborates with a team of professionals that provide deep leadership development expertise, project and program management, and stakeholder engagement. Leads and manages a team of leadership development professionals. The Associate Director drives integration within the team and across learning and development, including budget execution and vendor management.

Essential Functions:

  • Leads Learning Management team and provides coaching, resolves conflicts, sets SMART goals, conducts performance evaluations, and promotes teamwork.
  • Develops staff’s skills/competencies through regularly scheduled one-on-ones, development opportunities, and feedback sessions.
  • Reviews and provides advice and guidance on risk and compliance related topics.
  • Measures the outcome of all activities with a focus on continuous improvement by providing business sponsors with appropriate measurements/KPIs related to the success of the transfer of knowledge.
  • Oversees analysis of robust data from educator feedback surveys, field observations, self-study courses, and certification assessments to inform learning and development strategy.
  • Builds key relationships across the organization that help drive risk and compliance awareness.
  • Ensures alignment with Governance requirements, including enhancements and build out.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains a training database of metrics on all professional development initiatives.
  • Identifies professional development opportunities and researches, recommends, and implements solutions.
  • Conducts training needs assessments and identifies common / core knowledge gaps for the corporate functions
  • Develops strategic short- and long-term roadmap and aligns initiatives with department and company priorities and proposes vision and progress toward best-in-class learning and development program.
  • In partnership with the Talent Acquisition team, identifies synergies between the two teams and ensures learning & development programs are incorporated into recruiting efforts, including manager and interviewer training.

Other Functions:

  • Recruits, trains, develops, motivates, sets goals, and provides on-going feedback to a team of direct reports.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Manages subordinate managers and professional staff. Is responsible for the strategic guidance, development and evaluation of employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Santander’s policies and applicable laws.


  • Education –
    • Bachelor’s Degree: in Organizational Development, Communications, Education, Business Administration, Human Relations or a equivalent field.
    • or equivalent work experience
  • Experience –
    • 9-12 years Experience in an HR, L&D, or similar role.
    • Working with LMS/administration of LMS.
    • Managing a team.
    • Experience bridging the performance process with learning and development.
  • Skills & Abilities –
    • Ability to handle sensitive information with the highest degree of integrity and confidentiality.
    • Knowledge of adult learning principals
    • Ability to multi-task while maintaining a high level of work quality.
    • Knowledgeable of risk management culture to encourage team members to embrace appropriate risk practices and supporting team members in fulfilling risk management responsibilities.
    • Broad understanding of financial services regulatory compliance laws and regulations.
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to establish long-term relationships with business partners and senior leaders.
    • Exemplary attention to detail and excellent organizational skills to handle multiple projects and problems simultaneously and act accordingly in an efficient and timely manner.
    • Outstanding decision making skills with primary focus on accomplishing company and departmental goals.
